Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904
While he is best known for writing and illustrating children’s books using the name Dr. Seuss, he was also a cartoonist, poet and writer.
Over his career he won two Academy Awards, two Emmys and a Pulitzer Prize.
Best known for classics like “Horton Hears a Who” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” he published a total of 46 children’s books.
His work for the US Army in World War ll included writing an Academy Award winning documentary “Design for Death”
He was also published under the pen names Dr. Theophrastus Seuss, Theo LeSieg and Rosetta Stone.
His works have been turned into eleven TV specials, four TV series, four feature films and even a Broadway musical.
Geisel's birthday, March 2, known as “Dr. Seuss Day” has also become known as “Read Across America Day”.
